It's been a bit of a long time since the last post I wrote about our honeymoon! I've been a little busy, as many of you will know!
Since the last update on our honeymoon route planning I have been able to split the route into eight different routes which crisscross across the United States over a period of around three weeks.
Our first drive will take us from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park for a few days climbing El Capitan and trying to steer clear of hungry wild bears! The second drive will take us on a short trip south through California to Kings Canyon National Park where we will be able to gaze upon the giant red woods which dominate the area.
The next drive takes us to Las Vegas for a short one night in Sin City. I haven't decided on the exact route there as I am debating whether to drive through Death Valley as it will depend on whether there is a lot of snow cover between Kings Canyon National Park and Death Valley.
After our night in Las Vegas its on to the Grand Canyon National Park for a couple of nights. the Grand Canyon has over 2 billion years of exposed geology! So I am looking forward to boring Emma with talks on Palaeozoic strata rock formations. I have always wanted to see Monument Valley after watching Westerns while growing up. We have decided to drive though it and onto Arches National Park where we can try and find all 2,000 rock arches which can be found in the park. We may also go into the Canyonlands National Park where some of the aerial shots for Westworld were shot.
We move on from Moab which is just outside Arches National Park and on to Bryce Canyon National Park along the scenic Route 12. I have found a decent driving route though the park which allows us to start and stop and interesting points. We then drive on to Zion National Park where we are able to walk or get the park bus through the park. I am looking forward to seeing the whole park from Angels Landing, as this provides a great view though the Zion canyon.
After Zion we are going back to Las Vegas for a couple of night and then fly out to the Hawaiian island of Maui for a week or so away.
Its a pretty busy itinerary and I hope to keep you up to date along our journey!
I am now going back to packing as we only have a few hours until we need to jump on our plane!
