Arches National Park

We ended up visiting Moab and Arches National Park during the yearly Jeep Safari! This meant that there were hundreds of different customised Jeeps everywhere we looked. It did make me think that somewhere there could be a Citroen Safari somewhere in France and I could show my love of all things Citroen off to the French. Anyway I digress, back to the matter in hand.

Arches National Park is just 10-15 minutes drive from Moab, which means that we could just hoop into the car and drive in. It seems like the ideal Park to drive through and take in the natural wonders every seanic spot possible. So this is what we did! I wanted capture the drive through the park, like I have done during every scenic drive and so I used my GoPro record a time lapse set of images though the park.

We started at the famous Delicate Arch view point, we would have walked to the arch but we only had a day in the park so wanted to make the best use of our time by visiting the other sites in the park. We moved on to Landscape Arch which you are no longer able to walk under due to some of the arch collapsing in the early 90's. Still from the view point we were looking from it looked magnificent. Using the very useful park maps to navigate by as we have been in all the other parks so far we drove on to view the Double Arch and the North and South Windows. The Double Arch has a great scale about it, similar to a large building such a  gable in a cathedral. They really are huge! 

We were able to drive on to some points which allowed us to view pretty much the whole of Utah!In the west was the Canyon Lands and on the western side were snowy mountains which were bizarre to see while we were standing in the middle of a lot of red sandy features made of rock. After taking in the expansive view we moved on to the Balanced Rock which as it's name is a rock which has stayed in place while the column of rock around it has eroded. It's a pretty awesome sight and Emma and I were trying to guess which side it would fall when it finally falls down, we both thought it would fall on the left side!

We came back through the way we came as its a single road in and out of the park and went for dinner at the very good Moab Brewery. I have been trying to sample most of the local ales while away - that has been a highlight. There food was great as well. We are driving onto Bryce Canyon next and driving along the scenic Route 12 which is meant to have some break taking views of the surrounding area.
